History of El Popular

Founded Upon an Entreprenurial Vison

A long history of tradition, integrity, & quality

Our Founder

Our history began almost 100 years ago

Vicente F. Garza, the founder of El Popular brand Mexican food products, migrated from Monterrey, Mexico to the United States in 1925. On his journey to the Chicago area, he brought with him his family recipes along with a unique entrepreneurial spirit. Some of the recipes that Vicente brought have produced products that have made us famous today, products such as: chorizo, molé sauce, chocolate and queso.

Quality Control

Uncompromising standards from the start

El Popular brand was established in the Chicago area in 1925 and from the very beginning, Vicente F. Garza, set-out to craft all-natural products of uncompromising quality by using only the finest ingredients, and a most attentive care to detail.

Celebrating our Heritage

Mexican Independence Day

In East Chicago, IN, on September of 1928, Vicente and his family participated in the first of many Mexican Independence Day parades to come. Vincente fashioned his Ford-T into a parade float celebrating their Mexican heritage.

Four Generations Later

Vicente and his sons

Vicente and his sons Richard, Vicente, Jesse, and Arthur (not pictured), expanded the company using the same standards of quality that have endured for the last four generations. Little did Vicente know, in the moment captured in this picture, but his company would end up withstanding the test of time and continue as the oldest Mexican business in the United States.
